Printing without CUPS!?

CUPS is really aggravating me. It hasn't worked without a stupid page delay for almost a year now. It just isn't viable.

So I would like some tips on printing without CUPS. I don't need printer sharing, so spooling is unnecessary, right? I think my printer is able to take postscript, but how do I send postscript files (over usb)?
I have heard that you can use only the foomatic filters with no spooler. I have no idea how to do any of this stuff. But I need printing that doesn't take forever, and doesn't put errors on my pages!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Printing without CUPS!?

Admittedly, it's quite a few years old, but this'll probably give you some pointers where you should invest some research if you don't want to use CUPS.

You should use the CUPS bugzilla.

The relevant bug report has been on there since November of 2009.

Re: Printing without CUPS!?

You should give a chance to Apsfilter. I was using it with kernel 2.4 few years ago wink
