gurus sign up here

Just figured I'd start a thread to see everyone's skill level... it always helps to know what resources you have available...

skillsets, in order of ability:

personal - C++, C, python, C#, java
professional - C#, C++, fortran, C, VB

anyone else?
I know Dusty is the java-god... and xerxes is the python-pimp...

Re: gurus sign up here

In order of proficiency.
php,ruby,Java,C,JavaScript,SQL,perl,C#(mono)

That is all I can think of offhand..
I don't even consider html,css,and things like that languages anymore.. I put javascript because you can interact with the browser DOM with it. big_smile

ooohoooh..does xml and xslt count?

Re: gurus sign up here

I'd never call myself a guru, but Java god sounds nice enough...

I've never had trouble programming in any language I've tried except Prolog (and I never tried LISP because I guessed it would kill me too). I'm most proficient in Java at the moment, because that's all I've coded for quite a while (and its what I tend to code in because I'm most proficient.... savage cycle). I adore Python, and yet I don't like coding in it because I always act lazy. Any place where I'd delete duplicate code, for example, in Java, I just leave it in in Python. I don't really understand why.

SQL?!? HTML?!?!?!  :shock:

I thought this thread was about programming languages.

Does anyone still use Pascal? Or Smalltalk for that matter.

Re: gurus sign up here

Dusty: I consider gurus people who not only know the syntax well, but also the libraries... while I may know java fairly well, I can't tell you off the top of my head the needed functions to implement MouseListener like you probably can...

by the same token, I can bust out stuff like:

#include <vector>
#include <algorithm>

std::vector<int> v;
v.push_back(0);
v.push_back(10);
v.push_back(15);
v.push_back(20);
v.push_back(5);
std::sort(v.begin(),v.end(),greater<int>());
std::copy(v.begin(),v.end(),std::ostream_iterator(std::cout));

with my eyes closed.

OT: by the way, that, above, it the true c++ way to output everything in a collection... doing it with a for loop, while correct, is not taking advantage of the STL to it's fullest...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I know Groovy. Easy shit. :-D  Only it doesn't have anonymous inner class support, what a bugger!

I do too.  I don't much care for the Java Community and all this constant "enterprise" and "web services" talk, but programming in Java is a good feeling.
