Once again Arch has made headlines on Os News. This times it's in the form of a how-to to get bluetooth working with Arch.

I've spent a lot of time playing around with Bluetooth in Arch but not as an access point. It's not too tricky, except I compiled all my own bluez packages rather than use the Arch ones...

Was there a particular reason you needed to compile your own? I'm planning to get Bluetooth running on my laptop shortly, so if you came across any gotchas, I'd be interested.

Not really no. I thought there was at the time but I've since learned from playing around:)
What were you planning on doing with it? Sync or file transfer or...? I'll tell ya KDE has some good bluetooth tools (no Arch packages though) I just personally don't like KDE so I keep going about it the hard way

I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know if you have questions how to set BT up as an AP.

Get on the net via a Bluetooth/GPRS phone. My laptop is dual-boot Arch and Debian, and I did this on the Debian side a good while ago, before I'd even heard of Arch. I'm gradually preparing for Arch to become my principal distro, and this is one of a few applications that I still have to transfer over.

Me neither. I have used some of the Gnome Bluetooth stuff with XFCE4 on Debian, though.

The GNOME Bluetooth stuff will compile but doesn't integrate with Nautilus 2.10 yet, waiting for a new version. I've never tried to use the phone as a modem though.
