no X after nvidia upgrade [solved]

Hello,

I did a pacman -Syu today and I saw that the nvidia drivers have to be updated.
So I did

But now if I do startx X chrashes with this message :

Enabling 32 bit ARGB GLX Visulals
Depth 34 pixmap format 32 bpp
Failed to allocate memory buffer
Aborting
Fatal screen error
AddScreen/Screen  failed for driver 0

Roelof

Ediit 1 : One thing I find wierd. There is a 32 bit starting on a pure 64 bit machine.

Hello,

A reboot did it.
I always think that on a kernel update you have to reboot and for nothing else.

Re: no X after nvidia upgrade [solved]

the nvidia driver is a kernel module, and if you update with a running x-session it can't be reloaded or your X would go down. restarting X is not enough, but manually unloading/loading the module will do, so a reboot is not necessary per se. Pretty sure you get a message to that end after installing.

Pleas mark "solved".
