What happens if you try console log-in, startx and startkde?

Also, what does df -h say? If space is no problem, try move your ~.kde4 folder and see whether that works.

You're going to need to post some more information, but I recently had a problem where KDE wouldn't start.  I was just being dropped at the command line log in.  So I did as lilsirecho suggested and logged in as my user and ran startx.  It became apparent from the error message that the problem was with X and the updated nvidia driver.  After a little googling I just had to add the ignoreABI flag to my xorg.conf and then everything loaded fine.  Can't be sure if that's your problem without more information, but figured I'd add my recent experience just in case it helps.

Re: kde won't start

My friend, we need more info.

Simply saying "xyz did't work" and "I can't start KDE" tells us nothing.  Error messages would be great, as would be what was that you updated...config info  couldn't hurt either,
