GTX460 Upgrade Causing Problems

Upgraded my NVIDIA 8600GT to a GTX460. It is supported by the 256.53 driver currently in the Arch repo (and on my machine) but isn't working correctly. It boots up fine into Gnome but becomes more and more unresponsive as time goes on. It appears to be working properly under Windows so the card is fine.

Is there anything I needed to do on upgrading cards? I replaced the device section of my Xorg.conf with the new one generated by nvidia-xconfig.

Re: GTX460 Upgrade Causing Problems

Don't use nvidia-xconfig, the nvidia package comes with 20-nvidia.conf. Delete the xorg.conf (which is deprecated) and try again.

Did this and ran into the same problem (just on one screen instead of two).

Interacting with menus and applications works but too slowly to be usable. The system locks up (other than the mouse) if I trigger any Compiz effects which I've been using to test stuff earlier in the boot. I'll take a look at that conf file and continue poking around.

Make sure that you have installed both nvidia and nvidia-utils and the Nouveau isn't loaded.

Yupp. I was using the proprietary drivers and not Nouveau with my previous card. Both are present and Nouveau isn't installed on the system.
