Flash keyboard's microcontroller?

Hello,
I wanted to add custom combinations with the Fn key to control mpd, but I didn't success. For exemple, fn+del gives me a normal del, fn+F11/F12 is like I didn't pressed something.
I checked on wikipedia and I read that:

Unlike other modifier keys such as Ctrl, Shift and AltGr, the microcontroller inside the keyboard typically sends out a different keycode depending on whether the Fn key is depressed. [...] Because the operating system has no notion of the Fn key, the key can not be remapped in software, unlike all other standard keyboard keys.
In many designs, pressing F-Lock or Fn key itself does not generate a scancode.

So my crazy idea is to reprogram the µC to send new keycode, or give a scancode to fn big_smile
The only thing I remember around this idea is about a firmware hack on an apple keyboard, but I suppose that our laptop are not similar.
So do you have an idea, a path to explore... ?
