Hi,
I recently found out of the Terminal named font. It is a very nice looking and clean monospaced font.
It has two main advantages:
* really rocks for programming
* works as console font (framebuffer)
It can be found here:

How it looks in my favourite editor:

Now how it looks as Framebuffer font, with width 12 (bigger ones available, too):

For comparison the default font (latin0)

I would like to suggest to build a package out of this (if requested, I could do that myself perhaps).
Further I even would suggest to make this the default font of the arch console
Appreciating your opinions about this.

well it looks good with 12pt in my aterm, but in that size I prefer the following font:
-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed-*-*-110-*-*-c-*-iso8859-1
Perhaps you will have fun with that one

Define "garbage" :-)

The sizes present are 6x12, 8x14, 8x16, 10x20, 12x24, 14x28 and 16x32. The styles are normal and bold (except for 6x12), plus EGA/VGA-bold for 8x14 and 8x16.
From the README (for xorg)
1.2. Recommended modes.
As a general rule, use modes in which 80 lines and 30 columns of text fit,
for example 800x600 or more for font size 10x20.Use modes that match your display ratio. Most PC monitors are 4:3, so use
1280x960 (4:3) instead of 1280x1024 (5:4) if possible. The EGA/VGA text
modes are 720x400 (9:5), but the font (i.e. sizes 8x14 and 8x16) is designed
to work with them.
I'm using them in xorg with 1600x1200 and they seem to work fine.
BTW There is a new version available. I've updated PKGBUILD.

With new version smallest font size is 12 (previously 14). You should set it in ~.Xdefaults (or wherever you want) like this:
*font:-xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal-*-16-160-72-72-*-*-iso8859-2
(for size 16). There is a big difference between these sizes. For example with size 12 and maximized aterm window mc refuses to start becasue it can't handle so many columns :-)

Hmm, squashed together... as if parts are kind of rendering on top of each other... happens in xterm and aterm when I use a font name that looks fine in xfontsel (size 12)

Ok, but are you using the latest version?
Please update, run
xset fp rehash
and try
aterm -fn -xos4-terminus-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
Does it look any better? It's difficult to judge because I'm using a resolution that makes 12 look really small and almost unreadable on transparent background.
