importing openoffice files into scribus broken for ages

I always wanted to use scribus for some serious work, but there is no way to import odt files. Scribus just disappears off screen. The error message I get when I run Scribus from a terminal is always this:

scribus: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/scribus/plugins//gettext//libodtimplugin.so: undefined symbol: xmlSAXParseFile

This problem seems to exist for ever. Any workarounds?

TIA

same for me :-( i also was obsessed about this. the same is for pdf afair. but haven't been using scribus for a while.

but i am wondering that this issue hasn't been resolved yet. when i ran into it there was a rather easy workaround for me since merely added any formatting in OO. so i could redo everything in scribus.

Had found this, but unfortunately the patch cannot be applied. I also rebuilt libxml2 with the configure options they suggest, but still no luck....

Re: importing openoffice files into scribus broken for ages

as a work around I tried to export the .odt as .pdf file and opened the .pdf file with scribus. Only a column of letters were there. But evince open the pdf file correctly. sometimes scribus crashes with signal #1 error when tried to open .pdf files. This is for the records.

Re: importing openoffice files into scribus broken for ages

The Scribus in extra is 1.3.7-1, which is the development branch, Since I was bored and have wanted to try Scribus, I installed it and it failed with .odt just like you said.

So I installed the Scribus-stable branch 1.3.3.14 from AUR and it works fine importing .odt, though.

I wouldn't have a problem to install the stable version but it pulls the whole qt3 package....

Yeah the qt3 sucks

So I installed the Scribus-svn in AUR, it's probably  closer to 1.3.9, and since 1.4 is going to be the next stable release number, should be close to stable.

This version imported the .odt file without problem
