Synclient and SHMConfig

I want to use synclient to configure my mousepad.  However, every time I run it, it says "Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?"  I've looked and tried several things, such as enabling it via xorg and hal, but every time I still get an error.  Is there a way to fix this?

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

SHMConfig is deprecated, you shouldn't need it anymore. Just use synclient. If you're using a GUI app and it expects SHMConfig, the app is outdated.

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

Is there a way to use synclient so that it doesn't need SHMConfig?  As I said before, when I run synclient, it says "Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?"

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

Then something is screwed up on your machine. synclient does not require SHMConfig to work. Which version of xf86-input-synaptics do you have installed?

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

According to the wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Synaptics all you need to so is add Option "SHMConfig" "on" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

that wikipage is being rewritten, by me, and I'm still in the process of finalizing it.

SHMconfig shouldn't be required anymore since version 1.0 of the driver, however synclient seems to be somewhat broken with the current driver:

Monitor mode isn't functional anymore, but I can perfectly list the current settings with:

# synclient -l

Re: Synclient and SHMConfig

Oh, well the I actually wanted synclient for monitor mode mainly.  Is there a way to use monitor mode or something similar?

Not that I have been able to find, synclient itself still works though. for instance:

synclient HorizEdgeScroll=1

works just fine without SHMconfig enabled smile

as far as monitor mode goes, I'll reply if I find any solid information on it. I'm still working my way through the changelogs
