I've installed Arch on an old P4 with a 19" crt, and the command line screen resolution is so small I can hardly read it. I read the WIKI, did a search, and Googled with no luck. I did the vga=789 thing in the Grub menulist but it does nothing. Understand, X has not even been installed yet. I want 800x600 in command mode for my tired eyes.
I might add that I've experienced several instances of video problems with Arch. First, installation on my wife's HP failed with a video problem. Debian does just fine there. Then, on an AMD Athlon board, the first character on each line was displaced to the end of line. Tiny core Linux runs ok there.
Back to the current resolution problem, any help is appreciated.
My apologies if I have posted in a wrong section.

You need to pick a bigger font in rc.conf or disable KMS by appending e.g. 'i915.modeset=0' to the kernel line in grub if you use Intel video card:
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/bf1d191b-0f0d-4961-bd67-4d023a2e5873 ro i915.modeset=0

Problem solved.
My bad. I was using this computer with freeBSD and double monitors. I had an old Elsa Gladiac card in there and forgot about it. Took it out, plugged into the onboard video, and all's well.

Since using the onboard video, the text is now much more readable, but I'll take your advice and slightly enlarge it. As to your reference to Intel video: One of my boards with problem video had onboard Intel video. Have seen several problems with Intel video on google.
Thanks for helping.
