VLC plugin 1.1.4 always crashes on Firefox

So the title pretty much sums up the problem. The plugin always appears as "crashed" as soon as a page with embedded media loads. Flash works fine via  npwrapper.

Plugin info:

    File: libvlcplugin.so
    Version:
    Version 1.1.4 The Luggage, copyright 1996-2007 The VideoLAN Team

Browser info:

Firefox 3.6.9 x86_64

Any ideas?
