XFCE Keyboard Shortcuts

For the life of me, I cannot get keyboard shortcuts to work so I can open up a terminal.

Have been trying Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts.

I have tried to open various programs and tried a bunch of key combinations but none of them seem to work and can't find a solution. Even tried full path names for the commands i.e. /usr/bin/gnome-terminal. Also tried xterm and firefox in case it was gnome-terminal that was acting funny.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it seems pretty clear cut how to go about making the shortcuts.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.
