kernel 2.6.35.4-2 kills emu10k1 module? (-1 works fine)

Hello everyone,

I've booted my machine today after having updated the kernel to 2.6.35.4-2 yesterday to find that no sound mixer device was available. The emu10k1 module was not loaded and couldn't be loaded manually either (modprobe tells me the module could not be found although it's right there in lib). The emu10k1-gm (gameport) module does get inserted however. o.O

Downgrading to 2.6.35.4-1 and rebooting helps, the card is again working perfectly. The problem is reproducible for me. Update, reboot, not working. Downgrade, reboot, working.

Any suggestions?

I think this might be related to this bug tracker entry.

I am having the same problem with the drm, snd and usbcore modules.  Any update on this?  Seems like it's not a widespread problem since there hasn't been an update on the bug tracker and I don't see anyone else posting here.

UPDATE: In my case the problem turned out to be old modules loading during boot due to a GRUB misconfiguration. "find /lib/modules -name snd.ko" turned up nothing because the old modules were located on a drive that was not mounted in /etc/fstab.
