ThinkPad x200 Suspend Problem, X11 Related

Hello,

I'm sorry for bringing up a thorny problem, but this seems different from anything else I've seen recently, so here goes:

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad x200 running Arch. The system is up to date and has run *perfectly* for the last 10 months. I've successfully used an ACPI event hook to suspend the laptop. Here's the current problem.

If I run the ACPI event hook to suspend the computer, the "moon" LED will flash endlessly, and the screen will go black. Nothing happens, and eventually the fan goes on and the computer will chew through the battery. The machine is completely The only way to resolve this is to hold the power button down until the computer shuts off. And when I turn the computer on, there's nothing of use (of course) in logs or dmesg.

This also happens if I suspend the computer using "sudo pm-suspend".

This *does not* happen if I switch to a different, non-X11 virtual console and type "sudo pm-suspend" most of the time, so that I can suspend and resume from the virtual console with success. I've had a few of these freezes from the console, but I've started to switch to the console, pause for ~3 seconds, and make sure that the networking is disengaged before suspending and that improves success rate.

I've attempted this with every previous version of the xf86-video-intel driver that was cached on my system (i.e. everyone that I've used) with no success or change in behavior.

I've seen some reports for problems upon *resume* but no reports regarding problems during the suspend cycle. If the computer successfully suspends, I never have problems on resume, i.e. from a different virtual terminal.

All of your help and input would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
sam

Aaah, I have a Thinkpad R500 and pretty much the same problem. Also postet this in the forum, but since I dont know anything about it, I gave too less information and nobody could tell me that it is kernel related (had installed Arch for 9 months after reinstalling it just for fun and I never really used the 2.6.35 kernel because I didnt need to laptop at that time).

So if we are lucky, it should be fixed in 2.6.36 (a comment says that it seems to be fixed in rc2)?

Just to follow up. I've rebooted using the "kernel26-lts" package, and suspend works. I was unable to compile "kernel26-mainline" from AUR in an expeditious manner, and the -lts kernel works, so I'm going to stick with that, but if you need something in a newer kernel (though I can't imagine what, since -lts does work on the x200 hardware) wait till .36 hits the stock Arch Kernel.

I also had the problem with the arch-kernel, and now I'm running 2.6.36-rc5 with my own config perfectly without any problems.

I am suffering from the same problem here....and I was wondering when the kernel 2.6.36 with the corrected patch would release...I am not comfortable with a RC kernel in my computer for work....

Hope it would come soon...

I would expect a release somewhen in late October ...

Normally there are about 4-5 releases per year -> ~every 2.5-3 months. 2.6.35 was release on Aug 1st.
Now we're at rc5, i expect at least one more rc.

I had that problem too after updating to 2.6.35 so i switched back to the old kernel.
No freezes on 2.6.34.3-1.

That would be great....I have thought about rolling back, but there are always dependencies I have to care about....That is the thing I do not want to touch......And hope the new kernel comes....
