Recently I noticed that both my laptop and my desktop lag badly when I copy large files to/from the same or different partitions or disks. Both systems use latest stock kernel and kde. I also tried to copy the files with cp from a terminal, in case the problem was dolphin, but I got the same results. I suspect it is a kernel issue.
Any ideas/solutions?
TIA

i686 or x86_64? I'm guessing x86_64? Try kernel26-ck.

I'm not sure if it's relevant https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103346

Indeed, both systems are x86_64. So, is my issue related to the current kernel version, or has it always been there and I didn't notice ? :-).
Thanks for the suggestion, I will probably try the aur kernel.

This lag is a known issue (and an old issue) with x86_64 - not just Arch, but any distro. The kernel26-ck uses the brainfuck scheduler which helps quite a bit, but doesn't totally eliminate the lag. I'm a big fan of ck's patchset for other reasons, but give it a try and see if it's better for you.

Well, I tried the kernel26-ck but the lag remains. If there is any improvement, it is minimal.
