Can't disable desktop effects in Kwin

How can i disable the desktop effects?!

The checkbox to disable them is deactivated, so i cannot turn the desktop effects off.
I can't select opengl either, and Xrender is so slow...

Please help!

As a temporary shortcut to turn effects on and off, you can press Alt+Shift+F12.

I'm using the xf86-ati-dri i have an ati x1200.
I know that shorcut, but i want to disable the effects like for ever!

System Settings -> Desktop Effects > Uncheck the "Enable desktop effects". Done.

That is what i can't do...
The checkbox isn't enabled... so i can't turn them down like that.
