good video editing software?

anyone have any preferred video editing software? why do you like it? mainly looking at openshot/kdenlive/pitivi.. but haven't done much video editing in the past so not sure which I should go with. any thoughts?

I made a video once and used openshot for it. Back then version 1.0 was the most up to date stable release. There was no undo function etc. But still, it worked quite well. But I think kdenlive is better, but it's a KDE application, so it's pretty fat on a wm only environment.

I'd say, you should give them all a try, it's a matter of taste and it depends on what you want to do. I'd recommend openshot.

cinelerra-cv! no programm can compete with its features! and beware: the instabilitiy is a intended feature! :-)

cinelerra is maybe the most ugly programm that exists on linux-based operatiing systems. but once you got over the interface this tool is just plain awesome! it is made by pros for pros. so do not expect any fast progress in handling this tool. but once you got a grip it just blows you off!

I'm using kdenlive and am happy with it. Haven't tried the new version 0.7.8 yet, but will this weekend.

As someone who currently has openshot 1.1.3 installed, I can confirm there is now an undo option.

If you're looking for features, its cinelerra hands down. Its almost impossible to learn without some sort of guide though, so look for a good website.

Once you've learned it, openshot/kdenlive and the rest will look like the Movie Maker clones they are .

Of course, the other thing you can do is use the NLE in Blender, but that's even harder than cinelerra....

kdenlive is to video as ~~audacity~~ jokosher is to audio
cinelerra is to video as ardour is to audio

I do have to point out that kdenlive has been useful to me in a professional setting (post-production, along with ardour and xjadeo). So to me, it wins hands down.
