[solved] pacman not continuing download where it left, re-sets

Dear Archers

I am trying to download open office. Mine is a dial-up connection. Bit slow. Earlier, pacman used to continue downloading, from where it left. now-a-days it says 'resuming download not possible, starting over'.
Nearly 500 attempts at downloading open-office. Every time around 4MB downloads, and interrupts.
Using gnome-ppp. Is this a new feature? After Kernel upgrade to .35? Some-body pl. clarify, wheter this is a pacman issue, or after new kernel upgrade, pacman behaves like this

Using a server from portgal, does not reset

Re: [solved] pacman not continuing download where it left, re-sets

What do you use for downloading, do you have any of those uncommented in you pacman.conf?

[options]
<snip>

#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/curl -C - %u > %o

I think some servers don't allow resuming, so try another server.

I think some servers don't allow resuming, so try another server.

Below is the contents of my pacman.conf
#RootDir     = /
#DBPath      = /var/lib/pacman/
#CacheDir    = /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
#LogFile     = /var/log/pacman.log
HoldPkg     = pacman glibc
# If upgrades are available for these packages they will be asked for first
SyncFirst   = pacman
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/curl -C - %u > %o
#CleanMethod = KeepInstalled
Architecture = auto

Should I uncomment the xfercommand?

No, pick another mirror from https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus and put it on top of your mirrorlist.

I am now convinced, it is impossible to download go-openoffice, atleast with my dial-up. Changed mirrors, used powerpill, but in vain.

maybe ADSL connection is must for ARCH

I Will buy CD frm OSdisc.com
