Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

Ok, I created a new user.  This time, I see the system applet on the desktop - gnome-like access to desktop settings.  Cool.  I guess deleting .kde wasn't enough.

However, kcontrol still isn't in the k-menu, and perhaps more importantly, the k-menu editor is broken for me (doesn't launch).

Does the menu editor work for anyone else? (right-click the "K" and pick "menu editor")

note just tried 'kmenuedit' from command line... works fine...

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

yes for me it works,
but this sounds more likely a problem of xdg paths.
or the pacman upgrade bug.
menuedit works fine for me.
look at your .config/ and .local/ there a re menu settings stored for xdg.
launch kmenuedit from konsole, strace it or run gdb over it.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with xdg paths.  I've taken a look through related threads

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=6743

but wasn't able to figure out exactly what.  It seems changes found in that process have been incorporated in the profile.d/.sh scripts.

In any case, I eventually fixed it by deleting all kde-related info in my home directory (.kde .kderc .qt .config .local), uninstalling kde, xorg, logging out, then reinstalling them.

Sure is sweet now!

another problem which i just noticed is with libkdeui - trying to load superkaramba theme results with the following:

[ziggy@localhost ~]$ /opt/kde/bin/superkaramba
superkaramba: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdeui.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN12QProgressBarD2Ev

z4ziggi:
all is caused by a wrong qt package.
it'll be fixed as soon as possible, as workaround build your own qt as mentioned before,
thanks for testing and feedback

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

tpowa:

Downloaded the new qt from testing and the kdeinit problems are solved.  I will test for other issues.  Kcontrol and menuedit are there and working. Thanks for your hard work on kde and to the previous maintainer, dp for your work on kde.  The new kernel is working well also.

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

yes new qt from testing solve the issues with kdeinit smile
i recompile kdeaadons and kdesdk now to fit db and then all should be fine in testing smile
all kde packages depend now on the packages in testing.

P.S: don't forget JGC and CMF as intermediate maintainers of kde snapshots. we all give our best to make arch a great distro smile

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

kdeadmin seems flawed (same happened with the RC build).
"kuser" screws the user settings: changes login shell to /bin/sh instead of /bin/bash, adds the user to the "root" group without prompt and changes the home directory to "none".
I have tried changing user details many times with "kuser", it always messed things up.
It worked OK with 3.3.2, cannot be sure about "krokodile" (I think I never used kuser with it).

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

yes kuser have some issues, i searched the kde bug database.
perhaps i should disable it from compiling, at the moment it seems it does more harm than it works right. correct?
i never used that program for changing or adding users.

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

I guess that most Arch users will never use "kuser" for setting up their accounts... but disabling it? It really has a point, but after all it's a KDE module, flawed or not.
Just put in a warning, until the KDE guys fix it (it's less than useless as-it-is currently: almost harmful).

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

Konqueror java path points right now to /opt/java/bin/java and it should be /opt/java/jre/bin/java

That cause java applets to fail on Konqueror ATM.  Haven't reported as a bug since do not know which package is responsible (kdelibs, kdebase)?

Thanks for the packages.

oh ... THAT'S causing konqueror not be able to use java ... thanx for this discovery (i don't know how to fix this)

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

Just to throw in a thought...

Shouldn't the configure script of kdeSomething automatically adjust itself to point to the correct java dir? I'm saying this because it might be a bug in the build scripts comming with KDE.

Re: KDE 3.4.1 in [extra]

good point i found that it is not in kde-common sad
the script detects it but you need the jre not the j2sdk.
that's the problem.
probably have to fix kdebase or add a fix to kde-common.
Have to look at that.
