nothing can be run after internet is connected

After recent updates, my gnome sucks. (Tried xfce4, it works.) The problems is that no software can be run in gnome after the wireless connection is established.

I tried to disconnect it, and then everything worked just fine (of course, without internet). In that case, I opened a terminal, and reconnected the internet,  and tried to do something:

$sudo gedit /etc/rc.conf
Password:
No protocol specified

$dropboxd
No protocol specified

Everything I did ended up with a "No protocol specified".

How can I fix this problem?

Re: nothing can be run after internet is connected

this sounds like network manager (if this is what you use for your wireless) is changing your hostname and /etc/hosts.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Yes, I am using network-manager. Then, how can I fix it? Cheers.

to really fix this, you should help writing a backend for archlinux. We do patch networkmanager to not do that but seems there is another case which i can't figure it out.

maybe your dhcp server is sending you the hostname?

I really do not know. But it happened that we changed to a new wireless router two days ago, and this problem came after that.

I will try to use wicd instead. Hopefully it works. Thanks again.

Any reason NOT to use netcfg?
