I see posts of people getting this to work, but with the old bluez versions and hcid.conf
I checked out the bluetooth wiki, and followed the one for the iphone (most similar), so I have
# bluez-simple-agent hci0 00:1E:52:6D:7E:33
RequestPinCode (/org/bluez/28279/hci0/dev_00_1E_52_6D_7E_33)
Enter PIN Code: 0000
Release
New device (/org/bluez/28279/hci0/dev_00_1E_52_6D_7E_33)
But it won't connect. I just get
$ hidd --connect 00:1E:52:6D:7E:33
Can't get device information: Host is down
When connecting with bluedevil, I get "input service connection timed out"

I have that keyboard myself (3-battery version, but I don't think the hardware should be very different besides that). You might have to push the power button on the keyboard a few times, I know there are/were problems on Windows as well with getting the keyboard to work (and authenticating was one of the steps, like you did, so you're on the right track). I set up mine with bluez 3 though, Arch is on bluez 4 now, I only migrated recently because documentation is lacking. I do remember at the time the combination of Windows and Ubuntu tutorials got me going in the end though .

It was a while ago for me too, but as .:B:. said it may be due to the timing of typing the pin on the keyboard and in bluez-simple-agent.
Also, I added automatic authorisation at one point to make things easier so all I have to do is turn on the keyboard and im ready to go.
echo <device_mac> [all] >> /var/lib/bluetooth/<adaptor_mac>/trusts
Also this wiki page was helpful for me to get the keys set up nicely with xmodmap, once it is all working for you.

well I just have no idea on how to get it to connect. It works in windows via virtualbox.
edit: I don't know know why, but after trying again today, I finally got it to work. I just followed the wiki, and kept trying to set it up using bluedevil, and after multiple tries it just started working.
