I wonder what's the popularity of archlinux. Does anyone are aware of statistics on the numbers of users of different distribution, including archlinux?

No-one has those numbers.

i'm a happy arch user and is the only thing that counts ![]()
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

The number of registered users on different official fora might give you a very rough comparison.

There's Distrowatch, Alexa has it's rankings and you can check out the various forums: gentoo, fedora etc. but I don't think anyone has the numbers of active users (about 3% is a good guess and it works for our wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Special:Statistics )

Well, you could do a very rough comparison based on popularity in distrowatch, but to come to a more accurate prediction, it would be smart to include data comparing the number of forum members registered for each distribution during a set period of time, as well as taking the age of the distribution into account. So far as I remember Arch is about 8 years old, so there are the older users to account for, if they're still around.
Of course, among users who do more than, say, slap Ubuntu on their laptop, a great deal are aware of Arch, although they'll never use it.

I would think it would be impossible to get a specific number. I find it odd how Arch Linux isn't more popular than other distributions but it may be the KISS process that scares many new comers away. I myself love it and find it the best distribution of Linux I have ever used.

It is a proven statistic that 1 out of 1 Bregol likes Arch Linux the best ![]()

it would be difficult to measure the user base of any linux distribution as there would be no accurate way to gather data on that statistic. and, imo, it really doesn't matter. just because something is 'popular' doesn't mean it is any better and certainly doesn't mean that it's the best.

Also, 83 % of statistics are made up. True story. ![]()
Isn't there a project where you can register as a Linux user and add some detail about your computer's/OS's specs?

Not 8, but close, and since I put Arch on all of my friend's and family's computers (very little support needed after proper configuration, 7 active right now), who would never ever visit a Linux forum, I'm guessing other Archers are doing the same, so how could it be possible to make even an educated guess at how many Arch users there are?

And the others are just misleading. There are two Popes per square kilometre in the Vatican....
