No sound with Amarok *

Hi!
I'm a newbie to Arch but not to Linux!
I use Slackware for a few years but now i decide to explore and try Arch

I'v done a net install and everything went smoothly... except:

I have no sound on Amarok!

mplayer runs fine;
i've done the test and speakers are just fine but amarok don't!

I've installed phonon-xine but when i do that the speakers stop working when i run "test" under amarok (settings -> configure amarok -> playback -> configure phonon)

So i uninstalled phonon-xine and the test speakers work just fine

So i need some help, what is missing?

The sound board is a Creative X-FI, the module is loaded: snd_ca0106

Thx
EddY

Re: No sound with Amarok *

Only thing I can think of, are you sure Amarok is configured to use Alsa / OSS / Jack / Whatever you use?

Re: No sound with Amarok *

do you get the same problems with the test if you use the phonon-gstreamer backend?

also, have you tried running amarok in a terminal with the --debug option to see if there are any errors when you play a track?

Re: No sound with Amarok *

You need a backend for amarok, like phonon-xine, but you also need HAL daemon running. If you don't have it, one alternative is to install 'jack', amarok will fallback to it.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

Re: No sound with Amarok *

Hi,
bug: I have alsa installed, so amarok is configured to use it.

kachelaqa: If i use phonon-gstreamer i don't have any sound. So, today i've installed phonon-vlc and use it as a backend  to amarok and it works!
I guess the problem is phonon-xine, right? I don't know if i missed some package, as i said, is the first time that i installed and configured Arch.

anrxc: Right now i am not on my pc, so i don't remember if i installed HAL!

Thx

Re: No sound with Amarok *

Hi,
The problem was hal daemon not running!

Upgraded my system, hal start on boot and the music is playin'
The sound board is detected not as CA0106 but as X-FI xtreme audio!

Thx a lot for your help!

cheers
