Dell Inspiron 1720 with Broadcom BCM4311 WLAN Not Working

Hey,

I'm a bit of a newbie to Arch Linux.

I've got it all setup on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1720) with Openbox and a few other utilities, however, I can't seem to get my wireless card working.

As you can see from the title, it's a Broadcom BCM4311. I know it works as I've seen others use the same model with Linux (Specifically Arch Linux) and I've used it before with Ubuntu.

I've spent all day searching on Google and these forums, but I've found no solution. It's a very urgent problem, as I have to steal an ethernet cable from my web server, which simply won't do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dell Inspiron 1720 with Broadcom BCM4311 WLAN Not Working

I'm using wicd and to get mine working i have to go into the preferences tab and select either eth0 or eth1 as the wireless interface, to determine which I run iwconfig in the terminal and check the output.  Not sure why this happens with this card because on my netbook I am able to just set the wireless interface to wlan0.  Also, my wireless interfaces switches randomly after reboot between both eth0 and eth1.  Hope this helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

It seems my post was a bit premature, as soon after I found this wiki page which, while not exact for my card, did help a lot.
I am now successfully running Arch with all features running smoothly
