Re: null

Is xfce4-panel running? Check which xfce processes are running using

ewaller@matrix:~ 154 %ps -ef | grep xfce
ewaller 1023 1017 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:00 ck-launch-session startxfce4
ewaller 1098 1023 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc -- /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc
ewaller 1116 1098 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:10 /usr/bin/xfce4-session
ewaller 1118 1 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:03 /usr/lib/xfce4/xfconfd
ewaller 1130 1116 0 Oct04 ? 00:02:08 xfce4-panel --sm-client-id 21385abd4-49fc-4fdd-bea2-de5af966ac57
ewaller 1132 1 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:00 xfce4-power-manager --restart --sm-client-id 2d6ba72cf-78a1-46d3-9350-eb1ce5e966d9
ewaller 1133 1 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:11 xfce4-settings-helper --display :0.0 --sm-client-id 218637cbb-8cfc-464f-be55-c52c87def597
ewaller 1135 1130 0 Oct04 ? 00:00:01 /usr/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-menu-plugin socket_id 18874399 name xfce4-menu id 5 display_name Xfce Menu size 28 screen_position 11

ewaller@matrix:~ 155 %

If it is not, try starting it from the run interface or from the right-click accessible menu.  If that is the problem, check your xfce session settings to ensure the panel runs at session start up
