ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

I have an Alienware M17 with 2xRadeonHD 3870 running the xf86-video-ati drivers without any xorg.conf. Everything works fine, I have kwin 3D desktop, proper resolution, but I don't have any virtual terminals. As soon as the video drivers get probed, the screen goes blank until x starts and ctrl-alt-f# just freezes the screen until I get back to the terminal that's running x via ctrl-alt-f7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

Catalyst solved this issue for me on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

I can't seem to resolve all of the dependencies to install the catalyst package from aur. Namely the xorg-server<1.9.0 is giving me issues.

Edit: nevermind, found the catalyst-test package that uses the proper xorg-server. I'm building now. We'll see the results.

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

You didn't read comments of catalyst, did you? You MUST install catalyst-test in order to run it with xorg-server 1.9.

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

I can't seem to get catalyst configuration running properly. I just get a black screen. Ah well, maybe somewhere in here I'll find time to sort out one of the two issues.xf86-video-ati issues or catalyst configuration.

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

Did you add a kernel parameter - nomodeset? Also you can try to create xorg.conf by

aticonfig --initial

Re: ATI virtual terminals nonexistent

I did both of those things and still got a black screen. I don't really know what's going on.
