Hi there,
got an HP printer before 1 week, installed via CUPS webinterface (with hplip driver), printed a test page and all went good.
Yesterday I wanted to print a 3page document. Pressed print, the printer started BUT printed only the first page.
Disconnected power, sent the 2 next pages, again just the first.
Gone to the cups webinterface, and under the status it showed "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed". Tried unistalling and then installed printer, then it printed the same document 3 pages in-a-row.
Today (new boot session) I wanted to print another document, 2 pages, again, failed after the first.
What's going on?

Perhaps the setup for multiple pages is malfinctioning.
I have an Hp5940 which provides a window for editing the print sequence. Does your system have that?
My system was installed yesterday and printed three pages of this posting.
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

I am using KDE4 and I select "print" from the file menu.
I do not use print controls on the HP machine.
My system uses USB interface for the HPLIP/Cups interface...not connected to the ethernet system from the printer.
EDIT: Have printed several camera pix with PICT BRIDGE input to the printer.

My installation was made firstly with hplip-setup. Then I went with cups on the web to establish the correct ppd.
I then ran the setup again to complete the install. This was done as root for all steps.
I run as root always so I cannot call up the toolbox (not allowed as root).
I can run.... hp-levels.... to determine the ink supply even though it says I am not to run it as root!

Make certain you have cups daemon installed in rc.conf.
EDIT: Today a new Archlinux hplip package is downloading...give it a try!
