Extract multiple snapshots each from many videos

Hi!

I'd like to extract still images from a lot of home videos... first I want to try doing so automatically and deleting the ones that don't show anything interesting. Don't know, like one per 10 Seconds or something. The result most likely won't be that good and I'll eventually end up doing this manually, so don't want to put much effort into that "experiment".

Does someone already have a small script ready for something like that (maybe even one, that does "random neat stuff" - like p.e. processing the video creation date + time already passed to generate a date/time for the image tags & file attributes) so I can give it a try?

Is there a program besides ffmpeg you'd recommend? Theoretically it should be possible to enhance the still image quality by processing multiple frames, but I wouldn't guess there's something that does that (semi-automatically) floating around?

Thx, but I already took a look at (some of) those...

- Mostly they can only be used to create thumbnail compositions, not multiple full size
- Mostly they try to pull esound. I'd rather not install esound for making thumbnails.
- The ones that use mjpeg don't seem to work very well ("No  JPEG data found in images"), also I experienced "a lot of suck" with xine in the past...
- There's "thousands" of those tools/scripts around... I was hoping someone recently used one (or a script) and already went trough the searching & eliminating part of finding one that works (or even works especially well ).

Going to browse some more... more specific hints would still be great though!
