[SOLVED] X and Sony Vaio with ATI HD5600 not working

I think Arch doesn't like my ATI card. When I've installed Arch and xf86-video-ati everything was fine. Then I tried to install catalyst-test drivers from AUR and since then startx doesn't work.

Installation went fine, I've set up everything according to Arch Wiki and rebooted. X was trying to start, but everything I was getting was black screen and X error:

fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI :0@1:0:1) found

I was trying "aticonfig --initial", "X -configure", reinstalling drivers, even editing xorg.conf manually... Nothing helps. I gave up. I thought: "drivers from Arch repo wasn't that bad, at least they work" and installed them again (I've removed catalyst first).
And, what a surprise, it doesn't work! When I'm trying to start X with xorg.conf from "X -configure", manually edited xorg.conf or without it the only thing I get is strange white screen with some kind of artifacts. I can't do anything but hard reboot, because system is not responding to anything.

I'm running Arch with 2.6-35-ARCH kernel and xorg-server 1.9.0-1
My notebook is Sony Vaio EB2S1E/BQ with ATI Mobility Radeon HD5600.
I guess it might have something to do with fact that my notebook is from Sony: on Windows official drivers from ATI don't work and I must install drivers downloaded from Sony site. That's what they say:

The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:
(...)
- Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for
driver support for these notebooks)

I hope I'll run my X again someday with your help. I just don't know what else could I do. sad

EDIT
I've tried catalyst-generator 10.10-1 from AUR. Doesn't work either.

If catalyst does not support the card, then there is nothing much you can do about it, except that it will be supported at some point in the future.

Anyway: Did you reinstall libgl, and enabled kms again?

And what does the xorg log and dmesg say?

Re: [SOLVED] X and Sony Vaio with ATI HD5600 not working

Yes, I did.
There's one problem with xorg: when I get this "white screen" xorg log is empty after reboot...

I tried to start X with enabled as well as disabled KMS (I was following instructions from Arch Wiki) - it changes nothing. I still get white screen.

By dmesg I guess you mean "dmesg | grep radeon", am I right?
Here's output with KMS enabled:

Command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro radeon.modeset=1
Kernel command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro radeon.modeset=1
[drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
radeon 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
radeon 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
radeon 0000:01:00.0: VRAM: 1024M 0x00000000 - 0x3FFFFFFF (1024M used)
radeon 0000:01:00.0: GTT: 512M 0x40000000 - 0x5FFFFFFF
[drm] radeon: 1024M of VRAM memory ready
[drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready.
radeon 0000:01:00.0: irq 45 for MSI/MSI-X
radeon 0000:01:00.0: radeon: using MSI.
[drm] radeon: irq initialized.
[drm] radeon: ib pool ready.
[drm] radeon: power management initialized
fb0: radeondrmfb frame buffer device
[drm] Initialized radeon 2.5.0 20080528 for 0000:01:00.0 on minor 0

And KMS disabled:

Command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro radeon.modeset=0 vga=0x3F0
Kernel command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro radeon.modeset=0 vga=0x3F0
[drm] Initialized radeon 1.33.0 20080528 for 0000:01:00.0 on minor 0

Adding "pci=nomsi" doesn't work.

EDIT

Well, looks like Fluxbox doesn't like starting programs with xinit.
If anyone else gets this problem do this: run only Fluxbox with xinit and leave autostart to Fluxbox "init" file. It works (for now).
