[ SOLVED ] Unable to print ...

HI All

I have cups & samba installed all ok.  I can use localhost:631 and can find the printer on a windows 7 machine ok and install the appropriate drivers ok.  The problem is, when i try to send a print test page request, nothing happens ....

I have looked through the wiki to no avail, so now i am really stumped ..... ?

Any advice & help please ?

Many Thanks

Re: [ SOLVED ] Unable to print ...

Do you get anything in the logs?
You can view them from the Administration tab of the Cups web page, or via /var/log/cups.

if i do smbclient -L <WINDOWS BOX> i get this output

Domain=[WINDOWS BOX] OS=[Windows 7 Professional 7600] Server=[Windows 7 Professional 6.1]

Re: [ SOLVED ] Unable to print ...

Try installing the printer using the IP address of the Windows box. That worked for me when I had the same error (disk access though, not printer sharing as my printer's on my Linux box). The WINS resolution seems to be a black art with success and failure dependant on cosmic ray flux.

Re: [ SOLVED ] Unable to print ...

EDIT: What is the printer currently defined as?

smb://<WINDOWS BOX>/EpsonPrinter ?
You could try adding the Domain name  and/or a username:password as defined at the link below:

# lpadmin -p winprinter -v smb://IPADDRESS/printersharename -P /path/to/PPD

Or using the CUPS web page.

However something's just made me think that NETBIOS might be necessary. Try that while I try and dig out some old references or (more hopefully) someone else who's got this set up replies. wink

EDIT: this page may help diagnose it:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printing_via … dows_Share

The NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error can have many causes and I solved it using IP address, though that was a workaround and not ideal.
