ERROR: Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds

Hey community,
I've been using Arch on my laptop for awhile now, but now I need it on my other desktops. Whenever I try boot from the install disk on my 2 PC's I get the error message.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when installing Arch on another computer, around dealing with partition tables and what not.. There is a select boot drive function. If this is what the error is referring to, how could I access the utility for this and set a boot drive.

Thanks,
Chris.

There are quite a few posts on this:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103031
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=77815

Have a look at those posts and, if you can't get it sorted, come back with more specific details about what is going wrong.

Okay, I've now weaved through all of those topics + others, doing everything suggested. (In Ramfs)

Didn't seem to have made any difference to the situation, Ubuntu installed fine.. So did Debian.

Re: ERROR: Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds

Bump.. Arch Linux will still not installed. Tried:
udevadm trigger
exit

And also booting from a flash drive, resulting in exactly the same error.

Is there any workaround or fix for this bug?

Re: ERROR: Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds

I ran into this problem when booting a 201005 install image from a USB stick. From what I came across, this was reported to be a bug that caused the boot device error. After researching this problem for a bit, I realized the installer was looking for an "ARCH_201005" label when booting either architecture

If memory serves correct, this is exactly what I did....

1) fdisk/cfdisk /dev/sdX to create ~350MB partition for USB key
2) mkfs.vfat -n 'ARCH_201005' /dev/sdX  # MUST LABEL IT -> ARCH_201005
3) use unetbootin to put .iso file onto new vfat partition
4) boot up installation medium (in my case the USB key), wait for -> ERROR: Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds
5) while dropped to ramfs, go into /dev and make a symlink with something like: ln -s ARCH_201005 archiso
6) exit .. and the boot process should resume

Hope this helps
