This has been going on for a few weeks now and the new chromium update didn't fix it (damn).
Anytime I scroll over a link (or the newest XKCD comic) I get a solid black box with no text.
Here's a screenshot to show you what I mean:
I'm running kde. Firefox and Opera are displaying fine.
Any ideas?
**EDIT**
Well, it does it when I hover over any of the tools in Gimp too, so it's not just a Chromium thing. Weird.

Have you tried changing QT/GTK themes? Maybe its really a black tooltip with black text?

I thought about that.
First I changed my chromium settings to "use classic theme", restarted it and had the same problem. Next I changed it to use GTK+ theme, restarted it, same problem. Last, I returned it to "hide system title bar and use compact borders" (which is my default), restarted it, same problem.
I've tried changing my color theme in the system settings and returned it to default too, still no luck.
I've changed my window decorations and my desktop theme as well. Still no luck.

Ok, fixed it. Turns out it was an issue with GTK settings. I installed lxappearance and when I opened "GTK Style" in System Settings the settings under "Use special menu colors" had all of the menubars and text as black. Changed the text to white, restarted my GTK apps and everything is good now.
Thanks for the help Anonymous_User.
