Cowloop...not an animal but a filesys!
A recent appearance of "cowloop" file sys device is available for download in 2.6 kernel systems.
Check into it by entering Cowloop in the search window in google.

cowloop is a nice idea, but its not as sophisticated as unionfs from your previous post, which is superior in terms of performance and optional mounting (nfs mounts, multi mount points, etc).

Cowloop has a recent upgrade which may perform better than previous releases.
The two methods, Unionfs and Cowloop, are not the same in performance. There may indeed be good reasons for either system in LiveCD apps.
Best to know of the characteristics of both and act accordingly.
