I just ran pacman -Syu and got the latest updates, now I can't start OpenOffice. I've searched the forum but I'm not seeing any other posts about this. Is anyone else having the same issue.
I'm not using the testing repo and everything worked fine yesterday.

The packages were still in testing repo. I've just moved them to extra. If you don't want to wait for your mirror, grab the openoffice packages from testing.

Thanks for that amazingly fast response!
Also, I was using go-openoffice, but that's not in testing. If anyone finds this topic and they have go-openoffice installed that could be why OO isn't working. (Sorry for not mentioning go-openoffice before.)

Yikes, happened here as well with go-openoffice. Until it has been rebuild, here are some packages you may need to downgrade db (x86_64):
db

evolution-data-server

libetpan

redland:

go-openoffice would be dropped in the near future in favor of libreoffice. I suggest to switch as go-openoffice would not be rebuilt

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I see, thanks. Switched and libreoffice works fine with new db. That splash screen looks better now too.

Here is a little fix :
– Open a Terminal
– Type ooffice then Enter
– Use OOo and smile.
If you type oowriter, only the splash screen works… wich is useless, IMHO…

I have a question :
what is the difference between libreoffice-XX and libreoffice-langpack-XX ?
For example, for the french language, there is libreoffice-fr and libreoffice-langpack-fr… Wich one should I install ?
Well, I just installed libreoffice and libreoffice-fr, it seems to work… But I still wonder about the differences.

None. It's the same thing, although the "correct" name is libreoffice-XX
They shouldn't really be there twice.

Shouldn't libreoffice replace go-openoffice?

libreoffice doesn't replace go-openoffice because it hasn't released a stable version yet. I suppose that when it will happen, go-openoffice will be removed from the repo and will be automatically replaced by libreoffice.

Seeing similar problems. Updated today and now OO won't start when an app is specified. Start Open Office, and it works. Start Open Office writer or calc, and get only the splash screen. The main app never comes up. Started in a terminal in hopes of seeing a message, but there is none.
Only related package I saw in the update was redland.

Installed libreoffice after experiencing the same issues reported in this thread with go-office, and can say libreoffice is running very well being that it is still beta. Resource consumption is very low here.

This should help clarify what is going on: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/ … geNumber=1

go-openoffice seems to have been updated and working again.

I have tried and tried to re-install go-openoffice and it does not work. What did finally work for me is plain openoffice-base. I am not sure I want to delve into LibreOffice just yet.

Updated go-openoffice today, and now the if an app is specified, it starts. But there's another minor problem. All the menu entries for Office are gone. Have to start it from the command line. I am using LXDE.

simply "soffice". reinstalling it should update the menu entries.
