can anyone confirm running 3TB hdd?

I remember when 5MB was alot, now 500GB is nothing..
Anyway, now with the introduction of 3TB harddrives, some other operating systems, don't support booting from it and/or secondary drive option.

Linux is supported.

can anyone confirm running it as boot\secondary?

NOTE: Yes I know running 3TB as boot would be a BAD idea, but just for general knowledge, I'd like to hear if any experiences.

I haven't used one of the 3TB drives, but I have used raid arrays greater than 3TB on linux and the principle should be the same.  The first issue is that you need to use GPT for the partition table on the drive as the standard MBR based partition table can only be used with partitions of around 2TB.  The second possible issue is that the filesystem needs to support partitions of the size you want.  This is not too much of an issue with only 3TB although ext3 could be a problem depending on the setup.  ext4 should be fine along with xfs and jfs.  The reiser fs's should also be good at the 3TB level.

I was also wondering about this. I was looking into this drive, and I think I saw somewhere that there's a 2.19TB limit for 32-bit OSes. Am I correct in assuming that that really means 32-bit XP and/or NTFS, and not 32 bit computing in general? The computer I want to put it in is running 32-bit Linux, and since it's an old P4 box, 64-bit isn't an option.

Also, any idea if there be problems with compatibility on a hardware level since the hardware is so old (circa 2003)? I know this drive includes a pci card, but I'd rather not have to use it.

Just looking for some feedback before I spring the $200

Sorry, bump again. I just wanted to know if anyone knew if it was possible to have a 3TB partition on a 32-bit linux os. My file-server's cpu is only 32-bit unfortunately. Not as a boot partition, just for storage.

Edit: Well so I bought the HDD anyway and it does work fine. No issues yet at all. So I think it's pretty safe to say that it does work on 32-bit OSs.

I wouldn't rely on on 1 drive for 3gigs of data, but that's just me.

You mean 3TB? Backups are a must no matter the size but it's not what synt4x wanted to know.
