My laste -Syu has been a huge headache, lately it updated the kernel to 2.6.11. This meant that my nvidia 6629 package would no longer suffice. So I installed the current nvidia package 7167, and still have the lines in modprobe.conf that I need to get the 6629 working on this machine: "option nvidia NVreg_SoftEDIDs NVreg_Mobile=0" But although with the 7167 driver X starts, after a very short time it freezes/locks my machine to a point that it needs a hard reboot...
So I'm stuck with the old kernel, and the old driver... any assistance will be appreciated thx

that this is all happening on a compaq r3000z laptop (same as the hp zd5000) which has a 64mb 440go nvidia card in it.

wait, how are you using 6629, what's your resolution? I ask because I have a zv5000 and I can't use anything passed 6111; X will load but I'm missing parts of the screen if I don't use 6111.

Ok, I'm not going to complain anymore, 6629-5 package still works with the new kernel, and as long as I have "options nvidia NVreg_EDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=0 in /etc/modprobe.conf then everything works fine...
I have never had resolution issues with nvidia/r3000 btw...
