So firefox seems to be the only package on my system that updates itself automatically.
I would prefer that this happenes through pacman -Syu instead, or are there any benefits of firefox's auto-updates?
Does firefox's auto-updates also update the version that Pacman has logged in the package database? If so, then no need for pacman -Syu.
If not, perhaps this would be a nice feature for Arch devs to add as a Arch-specific feature.

Are you sure it updates itself and not only extensions?
How is it to update itself if it has no root access (unless you run it under root)?

firefox doesn't update it itself. it doesn't even have an update menu in our package. maybe are you using their binaries or like lucke said, maybe you are talking about extensions?
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

oh ok, i guess that could be it. Well in windows after an update, a tab opens up showing the new firefox version. So wierd because this popped up in mine, but i'm using the Arch package.
Oh well, no big deal. ![]()

I believe same thing happens here.
The window *notifying* you about a new version pops up when you open firefox *after* pacman has updated it.
However firefox only updates the addons itself...
