No audio over hdmi on gt240 nvidia card / device not in a play - l

Hi, I am, trying to get audio out over a hdmi cable with a gigabyte gt240
Under alsa I only see the onboard realtek anolog and digital devices for sound output , and those work fine.
I see the nvidia audio device under lspci.

Anyone have a roadmap to how I can bring the device up and achieve audio over hdmi with mplayer and xine.?

Yes, aplay - l comes up with just realtek and no nvidia audio device.

Check if the module for your hdmi audio is loaded correctly.
Also which graphic driver are you using ?

I have 190.53 for nvidia driver and 1.0.18rc3 for alas
Under lspci I see
01:00.1 audio device: nvidia corporation device 0be4 (rev a 1)

But this isn't under aplay -l as a device option

I dunno if this has anything to do with it, but 190.53 is horrifically out of date (and not in the Arch repos or AUR for that matter) - as per NVIDIA's site, the proper drivers for your card are the 260.xx series, available in nvidia from our repos and nvidia-beta from the AUR.

Maybe updating will help?

You might have a stale mirror. The current version in pacman is 260.19.21-1
