wicd-client not getting started as normal user

After the last update (pacman -Syu) "wicd-client" is not getting started as normal user. It gives the following error.

When I run as root, sudo wicd-client it works. Any one has experienced this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Re: wicd-client not getting started as normal user

Yes, i have the same errors...  "gksudo wicd-client" works; tried reinstalling wicd (after rm-ing all it's config files); am using openbox with pypanel.

edit:(i) "wicd-gtk --no-tray" and "wicd-client -n" both work ok; (ii) could this be due to the gtk2 update?

Can you post which packages you have updated?

Works here without problems on the latest updates. Is the wicd daemon running?

EDIT: I get your error only if the daemon isn't running.

Yes. wicd daemon is running correctly because the client woks when I run "sudo wicd-client". Here is the output from "ps aux | grep wicd"

root 3972 0.2 0.3 106760 9768 ? S 22:39 0:01 /usr/bin/python2 -O /usr/share/wicd/daemon/wicd-daemon.py
root 4008 0.0 0.3 94564 9440 ? S 22:39 0:00 /usr/bin/python2 -O /usr/share/wicd/daemon/monitor.py

If you run 'sudo wicd-client' you have the right (you have root righrts) to start the daemon and wicd will start it if it isn't running. So executing 'sudo wicd-client' is different to starting 'wicd-client' as normal user.

The updated packages look good, there should be no issues because of them.

Re: wicd-client not getting started as normal user

Two things from the Wicd wiki page,

1. Your user normal account should be a member of the network group.

2. Problems after package update - Sometimes wicd client doesn't load after a package update due to dbus errors or the Preferences buttons are not working. A solution is to remove the config files in the /etc/wicd/ directory.

  sudo /etc/rc.d/wicd stop
  sudo rm /etc/wicd/*.conf
  sudo /etc/rc.d/wicd start

Hope this help smile

wicd-client is working fine for me on my laptop with base Openbox install so perhaps your issue is not directly related to wicd?

Just as a thought, have you tried to create a new user to see if wicd-client fires up under the new user?

Re: wicd-client not getting started as normal user

The problem is not in wicd. I think the problem is related to xfce4-notifyd after libnotify upgrade (0.4.5-1 -> 0.5.2-1).
The follow options solve the problem:
(1) downgrade libnotify to previous 0.4.5-1
     or,
(2) substitution of xfce4-notifyd with notification-daemon

It seems that libnotify (0.5.2-1) only supports notification specs 1.1, while xfce4-notifyd supports only 1.0 and below.

You may be correct as I believe xfce4-notifyd has caused problems in the past with wicd - I dont use xfce4-notifyd and have no problems!

Re: wicd-client not getting started as normal user

Confirming that switching from xfce4-notifyd to notification daemon fixes this for me.

You can also start with wicd-client -n and then uncheck "use notifications" in the preferences.
