does anyone know how to aquire the linux version of orbit in order to run in archlinux?
http://users.rcn.com/steve.belczyk/orbit/
i tried getting the ubuntu version and running deb2tgz on it, which didnt seem to work for me.
...i'm far more interested in getting the source code though, otherwise i would have probably just reluctantly installed wine and used the windows .exe.
i've sent an email, but it seems like this has been unavailable for over a couple years now.
[edit- and i just recieved notification that suggests that email is unlikely to be recieved]
i searched and searched, and even got a bit too excited when i thought i found the correct orbit.tar.gz, but it was just a compressed set of css files for some completely unrelated site.
it really is a very cool little space sim. i think it has the start of makings of something greater than either oolite or vegastrike.

Googling for orbit.tar.gz quickly reveals:
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/ORBit-0.5. … 2.0.0.html
Choose one of the first links and you will get Orbit 0.5.8 with sources.
Based on the system specs (e.g. 133 MHz CPU) I guess it´s no big wonder that the sources vanished.

This is interesting. maybe this would be worth writing up a pkgbuild and putting in the AUR...

Hmm that is not the game Orbit, but a Gnome lib for a Corba implementation Orbit.

I found the source here:

direct link
Also, I've made a basic PKGBUILD (+patch) here for further hacking.

yeah, in my excitement i downloaded a few wrong orbit.tar.gz files during my searches too.
anyways, thanks very much guys (esp. lolilolicon).
arch community rocks! woohoo!
had i known you would have been so awesome, i would have spared myself the hours of searching, and just been a help leach. (jk!)
[edit-
i'm pretty new to looking though source code, but surely there should be something more in there than just texture maps, missions, models and sounds...
it could be that i'm just missing something, like there might be a file in the missions folder that comprises the main game engine
... or maybe it's all entirely in the other libs n dependencies.... ?

oh, musta been looking in the wrong one.
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/ma … rig.tar.gz
loads more in there. ![]()

got a friend interested too, n he's put it up on his github
https://github.com/jony123/orbit
jony123 say:
orbit.c and Makefile needed to be changed.
you might need to change Makefile again to point at the libs for your system.
that github one doesnt include all of the game data. It only has the code.
