ALSA - Cant play wave files in VLC

I cant play wave files in VLC when its set to the default ALSA device, mp3 etc however work.

In VLC i can select 3 devices:
default
HDA NVidia: ALC1200 Analog (hw: 0,0)
HDA NVidia: ALC1200 Digital (hw: 0,1)

If i select hw: 0,0 it works fine but default and 0,1 do not.
I tried using .asoundrc to change the default but that doesnt seem to work (the file takes effect but i still cant play the wave file)

pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 0
}
defaults.ctl.card 0
defaults.pcm.card 0

aplay -l lists me the same devices and using aplay without any other parameters plays the file.
But if i use aplay -D hw:0,0 it just says resource busy.

While i could just change the option in VLC this also affects some other programs where i cant change the device, so id kinda like to get it changed.. somehow ^^
