WALTOP Tablet and GIMP Crashing

Hey Archers,

I have a Genius F610 drawing tablet. It is a WALTOP tablet so it's supported by xf86-input-wacom (works flawlessly, much much better than wizardpen ever was). But when I open a new image in GIMP and click either of the side panels with the pen, GIMP crashes with this message:

(script-fu:13211): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: gimp_wire_read(): error

I've seen this error on many forums but none of them seem related to my issue, the problem doesn't reproduce with any other input device but the tablet.

Any ideas?

EDIT:

To add some more info, I jumped to GIMP 2.7, the gimp-devel package from extra. It also crashes with pen input. Here's the stack trace:
