Asus eeePC 900A with 8GB SSD and LVM dm-crypt?

Hello folks,

I would like to entirely encrypt my Asus eeePC 900A with 8GB SSD.
Would this be bad for my SSD lifetime?

I would like to use ext2 as Non-Journaling-Filesystem on top if the encrypted partitions.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Re: Asus eeePC 900A with 8GB SSD and LVM dm-crypt?

LVM+dm-crypt doesn't support the TRIM command, and I think an 8GB SSD has a relatively poor lifetime already, so I don't think it's a good idea. AFAIK, no TRIM = higher write amplification.

I spent a fair amount of time searching for information on this subject and decided not to encrypt my new 64GB SSD... (partly because I was fed up with looking for information, though wink)

I don't have numbers about your SSD or usage patterns though.
