Please don't force pulseaudio

Got this today:
==> Package upgrade only (new release):
testing/phonon-gstreamer 4.4.2-2   2 -> 3
testing/phonon           4.4.2-2   2 -> 3
community/ozerocdoff     2-1       1 -> 2

==> New package :
testing/libasyncns       0.8-3     (required by libpulse)
testing/libpulse         0.9.21-15 (required by phonon)

Please, keep pulseaudio split and don't force it on everyone.
I detest it and don't need nor want it on my system.

If this policy (building all new packages with pulseaudio on)
is kept up, I am forced to switch away from arch and that
would be sad because arch is a great distro.

Re: Please don't force pulseaudio

Wrong tone to protest in, at least while using a package from testing. If it's a "policy", you sure have other examples of pulse being forced onto your system. You have a point there and I agree, but there's no way you can threaten the devs into "changing policy". At least not with taking yourself hostage...

Re: Please don't force pulseaudio

And we are forcing how...   it is built against libpulse but you can use whatever audio backend you want.

Get informed.

Re: Please don't force pulseaudio

To build every new package with libpulse support seems to be
the new consensus:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.arch.devel/12906
I find it astonishing that the pulse guys just move ahead
with so little discussion.
And sorry, but I feel strongly about this issue: I don't want
no libpulse on my system, ever.
(And it was optional till today, why the sudden switch?)

That is just naive...   you have plenty of libraries on your system that you do not use.  What does one more matter?

Now you have the option to use pulse in phonon.  Previously you did not.

are you freaking kidding me.
there is NO distribution that doesn't provide pulseaudio by default. ALL of them have it because gnome for example is making packagers use it. Keep your "switch away from arch" threaten for yourself. WE don't care if you switch or not.

having libpulse as dependency doesn't mean you have to use pulseaudio. is just a lib like any other libs in your system that you don't have any clue about them. pulseaudio was split into libpulse and pulseaudio just because of that. pulseaudio package has all the daemon and the stuff you hate about.

The ultimate solution is to use abs, like all the pulse lovers did it before. Just don't be drama queen smile

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Because pulse is like a virus: it spreads and silently takes over your system.
Once you let it in, you'll have a hell of a time to get rid of it again.

OK... let me replace naive with just plain dumb.

Re: Please don't force pulseaudio

Octoploid, enough. You have expressed your opinion - in a completely inappropriate manner - and you have the option to "cure" yourself of this "virus" in a number of ways. Pick one, and get on with it.
