Suspend/Resume Failure Acer Aspire 1551-5448

Hi All,

I have a recently purchased Acer Aspire 1551-5448 and it has had problems resuming from suspend and going into hibernation. I've read around the forums a bit and this seems to be a not too rare problem. I haven't had much luck in finding an exact solution. My symptoms are that the suspend seems to happen cleanly but upon boot up the screen remains black. No messages or blinking cursor or anything, just a black screen and all power lights on. For hibernate, the hibernate process doesn't complete well. It seems like hibernate is on the way to working but then the power stays on -- screen goes black and LEDs switch to hibernate mode.

I tried setting up suspend to disk, described in this article Suspend to Disk. I also tried adding "nomodeset" to my grub menu.lst. Neither of these seem to have done much.

As there seem to be a variety of problems that could be causing resume failures I thought I'd post some information about my system in hopes that someone more knowledgeable could quickly assess a problem or make a suggestion. Please let me know if there are any other files that would be useful in helping diagnose and fix this problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Re: Suspend/Resume Failure Acer Aspire 1551-5448

Hi,

there is a work around for suspend to disk: uswsusp. This is already mentioned in your wiki article https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Software_suspend . But one thing is omitted, uswsusp is now in aur. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Uswsusp . Follow these descriptions, then head over to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Software_suspend again and follow section "Recreate the intramfs" This worked at least for me.
