Installing GRUB on a flash drive, then direct root to RAID0 array

I'm trying to get Arch installed on my OCZ Revodrive and I just can't get  grub or grub2-dmraid to install.  I read at the OCZ forums that someone else partitioned and installed GRUB on a flash drive, then directed the root to the proper hard drive and partition.  I'm going to try this tomorrow when I get back into town. 

Are there any downfalls to this?  Any suggestions before I get started?
