Cannot start programs when connected via cablebound LAN

Hey guys,

I have discovered some very strange problem: Whenever I am connected via cablebound network, I can not start any programs with graphical user interface. I always get the error:

[...]$ ./firefox
No protocol specified
No protocol specified
Error: cannot open display: :0.0

As soon as I disconnect the network cable, everything works fine again, except my internet connection.
This problem has just ocurred since yesterday, before everything was fine. I had my Laptop recently in service, but they didn't change anything.

Has anybody seen this error before and/or has a solution?

After a complete system update everything works fine again. Still have no idea what the problem was though...

Possibly an xhost problem of some sort at a guess.
