I use LXDE with pcmanfm as my desktop environment. Somehow I carelessly managed to uninstall gvfs, which is required to use the trash bin option in pcmanfm. As a result, files I deleted were sent to a non-functional trash can. After I noticed that I couldn't empty trash and I wasn't gaining any free space by deleting, I realized that gvfs was missing. I reinstalled the missing package and now I don't get an error when I click on the trash. However, it always shows nothing in my trash and stuff I deleted when it wasn't working is still taking up space on my hard drive, and no matter how many times I click "empty trash" I still have a full trash icon in pcmanfm. Where does the "trash" get stored on the file system so I can manually delete it? Almost 4 gigs of my hard drive is in limbo.

You might need to go in as root to see what's going on.
Wow, that was fast. Thank you. I just tried that and discovered 18 GB of lost hard drive space. My trash must have been malfunctioning for much longer than I thought. This is great.
