[SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

Everytime I print in Libreoffice it complains about me not having set the default printer. Where do I do that in Libreoffice or is it refferring to my setup in cups? Also in systemsettings under KDE4 when I try to manage my printer and I try to set it as default I get the following error:

Der opstod en fejl under CUPS-handlingen: "client-error-forbidden".

EDIT: Fixed by setting default under cups administration.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

Hello,

I ran systemsettings > Printer Configuration with root privileges and set the default printer, then rebooted to restart the daemons.

Solved it for me smile

I tried that but I get this error:

[af@andre ~]$ sudo systemsettings

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

i have   system->administration->printing

and in printer tab "set as default"

maybe you need to install something like

"system-config-printer" for this.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

I had the same problems until I set the default printer in CUPS

http://localhost:631/admin
Manage Printers
Select printer
Set as default under the Administration tab

Now libreoffice doesn't bitch about no default printer anymore

Yes, that fixed it for me too smile. Still don't understand the issue with sudo.

Try using kdesu instead of sudo

Tried that and that worked smile. Seems like sudo under KDE is not allowed to start a new X session that is not done by the original user.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

I have the same problem on two machines but "Set As Server Default" in the CUPS settings didn't fixed it.
If I change the default printer in Libreoffice itself it works, but after a restart of Libreoffice it's the same as before.
In System-config-printer "Set As Default" is grayed out.
What could be the problem?

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have exactly the same problem. I do not run a desktop (plain icewm). Anyone has found a solution since then?

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

Since last update when I changed over to LibreOffice from OO printer would no longer work and there was nothing even in the process list. I wne into CUPS and did a "Modify Printer" and ran through the steps, choosing the settings I had before and then removed the idle jobs. That seemed to have worked for me...

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

Anyone found a solution to this issue ?

I have the very same problem -- even though I selected my printer as the server default one in the CUPS administration interface (web based), LibreOffice still complains it cannot find it : then I click OK and it works until I quit / restart Libo.

(Arch + Gnome 3)

BTW, the "quickstart" now works properly -- it used to prevent Gnome 2 from exiting, but there's no such issue in G3 smile

Cheers !

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

For some reason I wasn't able to even have my local USB printer recognized in any application  (Firefox, Evince, etc.) after adding it in CUPS.  I did try setting the default printer in CUPS as people have suggested in this thread, and although this issue is different than the issue for people in this thread, perhaps what solved my issue can be of help to you.

I installed cups-usblp via the AUR and removed "blacklist usblp" in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.  Re-adding the printing in CUPS now allowed my applications to see it.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with setting default printer in Libreoffice

bkadoctaj : this is actually exactly what I did as well. It works, although there is still a strange behaviour compared to under Ubuntu for instance :

- The printer wasn't detected, I had to add it from the CUPS web interface
- Libo complains about "no default printer" although I definitely set it as default in the aforementioned interface

(I use cups-usblp and splix-svn due to my specific hardware)

Hmm, weird... as far as I can tell LibO is using my CUPS-defined default printer as its default.  Thanks for the feedback - you made me glad that I wasn't posting something irrelevant lol.

Possibly a stupid question but your user is a member of the lp group, right?  I don't have anything set for "Allowed Users" in CUPS but you could also try adding your user there.  Curious to hear of a solution if you find one.

I had the same issue on a PC once and removing directory "~/.config/.libreoffice/" solved the issue for me.
